Back in the 90s I had a job as a barman and one of the other staff had some decks that he would bring into the pub to play tunes after closing time.
After constantly asking him, he finally gave in and agreed to teach me the basics of beat mixing. From there I was hooked!
What styles do you play?
Anything that makes you want to dance! All types of House, Trance, Old Skool Classics, Drum & Bass and Mashups.
I do have a huge fondness for the Trance music goodness as well, especially the tracks with amazing uplifting vocals.
Do you mix or scratch or both? Or are you more of a presenter?
I love to mix tunes that just flow into each other without even hearing the join.
I tried some very basic vinyl scratching but could never get my head around moving the records and faders at the 'wrong time'!
Do you play on just one of danceradiouk.com's stations or both?
My style of music is most suited to Dance Radio UK so that's where my show is.
I also do a monthly Rock The Box show with Blueeyes on Box UK, and have been known to do cameo appearances across both stations from time to time.
Outside of danceradiouk.com, who are your favourite DJ's, bands or music artists and how have they influenced your style (if they have)?
I like most types of music – after all a good tune is a good tune regardless of its style! Biggest influences in terms of dance music were the old Pete Tong Essential Selection radio shows in the 90s.
Also the amazing pirate radio stations back then playing drum and bass, house, rave and happy hardcore. I would tape the shows and hunt for the songs in the local record shops.
What other interests do you have besides DJing/presenting on the radio?
I was born in Gloucester, so it won't be a surprise that I am a big Rugby fan. I enjoy watching most sports and was lucky enough to watch the Formula One British GP live at Silverstone a few years ago.
I am also a massive theme park fan - the number one holiday destination for me is Florida. I also enjoy playing on my games console and arcade machine, cycling and going to the gym when I get the chance.
Favourite things?
Good company, good food, good music and good fun! Also Cyprus and Cheese!
Sum yourself up in a sentence?
Warm, approachable, hard working and slightly (ok – very) cheeky and quirky!
Your desert island discs?
I like so many types of music, it would be impossible to pick so I'm just going to say my hard drives full of choons.
Anything else?
I love to listen to both Dance and Box UK and the whole community there is amazing and very welcoming!
